Creating or Adding Members

After having put the forum application into operation, the first thing the forum super user (SU) has to do is to create or add members. First of all, the super user has to create the member entries for the forum administration (see Forum Roles). After this initial step, the task to administer the forum can be handed over to these members.

Creating Members (standalone forum)

In case the forum application runs in standalone operation (i.e. the member entries are managed by the VIF application), there are no existing member entries that could be integrated. The forum's administration, therefore, has to create the member entries manually. Clicking the "Create member entries" menu (in the "Search member" menu section) will display a form that lets you enter the member information needed to create a new member entry. Check the "Administrator" role to make the member a forum administrator and click the "Save" button to store the new entry.

Check the "Member" role for normal members. The "Group-Adminstrator" and "Participant" role are disabled. A member becomes group administrator automatically as soon as he is assigned the group adminstraion role in a discussion group. A member becomes participant automatically as soon as he registeres for a discussion group. (See Forum Roles for more information.)
 

Adding Members (external authentication)

In case of running the forum application with existing authentication infrastructure, the application reuses member information stored in external databases. The only thing a super user has to do is to retrieve the externally stored member information for the forum administration and to assign the administration role to these member entries. To do this, the super user has to enter the name and/or first name of such a person into the search form. In the list of member entries displayed after, click on the user name of the designated administrator. This will open the edit form of this entry. Now, you can check the "Administrator" role to make this member a forum administrator.
